STH Library Talk Series: Olga Potap (Postponed)
NOTE: This event has been rescheduled until Fall 2020.
The School of Theology Library hosts Olga Potap for a new installment of the STH Library Talk Series. Olga will speak concerning the fate of Abba Balosher’s library in Lithuania. Abba Balosher (1869 – 1944), a Lithuanian Jew, was an educator, scholar and librarian. For a few decades, until 1941, Balosher owned and managed a multi-language library in Kaunas. His library was extensive in scope and unique in content. It was thought that the Nazis destroyed Balosher’s library. That is, until 2017- librarians at the National Library of Lithuania discovered a part of Balosher’s collection. It was an utterly unexpected finding. A transcript from a previous presentation Olga gave on the topic is available via academia.edu.
Olga Potap is the Serials and Acquisitions Librarian at the Theology Library. She manages the acquisitions workflow for all formats, including the acquisitions budget, negotiates with publishers for pricing and license agreements, and maintains the periodical and newspaper collection among other related duties.
Olga holds a MSLIS from the Simmons School of Library and Information Science and MLA from Boston University. Olga is a member of Beta Phi Mu, The International Honor Society for Library and Information Studies and the European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS).
