We cover a lot of territory in Student Health Services. If you’re not sure where to start, answer a few quick questions here and we’ll direct you to the right place.

  • 1. Can I make an appointment at SHS?

  • Are you a full-time student?

    Full-time students can make appointments at SHS because their tuition includes a Health and Wellness Fee. Students who have graduated cannot make appointments at SHS.

    Or do you have the Student Health Insurance plan?

    All full-time and part-time students with the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) can make an appointment at SHS.

  • Check Your Status

    Your medical immunization compliance status can be reviewed within the Medical Clearances tab in Patient Connect under the Medical Clearances tab.

    If your overall clearance status is "Not Satisfied" or if there is a "Not Compliant" status listed, then you should either provide proof to confirm you have already received the missing immunizations or make make an appointment to receive your missing immunizations.

    If your overall clearance status is "Satisfied" or if there is a "Compliant" status listed, then you are compliant for immunizations, but may be non-compliant for another reason not related to immunizations. In this case, you should contact the appropriate university department.

    How can I become compliant?

    Easy! You have a couple of options.

    1. You can get your immunizations at one of our campus-wide immunization clinics. Please see the SHS calendar for the updated immunization clinic schedule and locations.
    2. If you would rather make an appointment to get your immunizations at SHS, Patient Connect gives you online secure access to schedule an appointment for immunizations, or you can call 617-353-3575 to schedule an appointment during business hours.
    3. You can also receive vaccines at an outside location and then upload your documentation in Patient Connect under Forms, and Immunization & Physical Upload. We list some places that offer immunizations around the city on our Resources page.
    How to submit updated records?

    You can upload immunizations anytime online in Patient Connect by following the steps below.

    1. Login to Patient Connect.
    2. Click the Medical Clearances option on the left menu bar.
    3. Click the Update button to the right of Immunization Record.
    4. Select the Upload button and follow the instructions to upload your Immunization Requirements Form.
    5. Click Save once completed.

  • Incoming/New Students

    If you are an incoming student, please refer to the appropriate Incoming Health Requirements Guide for detailed immunization submission instructions. Failure to follow and complete the required Incoming Health Requirements instructions will result in a registration hold on your Student Account. This means you will not be able to register for classes.

    Returning/Current Students

    If you are a returning or current BU student, please submit your immunization records in one of the following ways:

    Online

    Log into Patient Connect using your Kerberos account, click the Forms option on the left menu, and click Immunization & Physical Form Upload. You will then be presented with an option to upload your forms.

    Mail or Drop-Off

    We encourage you to upload and enter your immunization history into our portals because it will update your compliance status much faster than standard mail. However, if you cannot complete any of the steps because of technological restrictions, please submit these by mail or drop-off.

  • We cannot accept medical records via standard email due to privacy reasons. Please use one of the following options to submit your medical records to SHS:

    Online

    You can securely upload standard medical record files via Patient Connect through Messages (option 1) as a message attachment. We encourage you to upload medical records to Patient Connect because they can be uploaded anytime for your convenience.

    Your immunization records are available to view and download via the Patient Connect under the Immunizations tab any time.

    Other Medical Records

  • Not to worry! You will be able to get your TDAP (tetanus) shot at one of our immunization clinics when you arrive on campus. Please see the SHS calendar for the updated immunization clinic schedule and locations.

    If you would rather make an appointment to get your immunizations at SHS, Patient Connect gives you online secure access to schedule an appointment for TDAP and other vaccinations or you can call 617-353-3575 to schedule an appointment during business hours.

  • 4e. Patient Connect can't locate my medical records. What should I do?

  • Your Patient Connect account and BU health records will be created the day after you officially matriculate. You will receive an error message in Patient Connect if you haven't matriculated. If you would like to know when you will be matriculating, you should contact the registrar’s office for more information.

    If you are an incoming student or parent/guardian and don’t have access to Patient Connect, please submit non-healthcare-related questions using our online Ask a Question form.

  • Prescription refill requests can be submitted in Patient Connect under Messages. If this is urgent, please call us at 617-353-3575 during business hours.

  • Online Access

    Patient Connect gives you online access anytime to schedule and cancel appointments for most Primary Care visits. Patient Connect also gives you the option to send a message to one of our healthcare professionals for assistance with any healthcare-related questions and for advice.

    If you are interested in same-day/next-day appointments and can't find an appointment time, check back. We do periodically open appointment times throughout the day a few hours before, and appointments do become available if there is a cancellation or someone reschedules.

    By Phone

    Call Student Health Services at 617-353-3575 to schedule an appointment during normal Primary Care business hours. *Please have your BUID number ready. SHS will book appointments up to three days in advance, and we keep approximately half our appointments available for same-day booking.

  • To see a counselor or mental health professional you should call the Behavioral Medicine Department (SHS) at 617-353-3569 to schedule an appointment. *Please have your BUID number ready.

    Emergency services are available 24/7/365 through 617-353-3569.

  • 6c. I need to speak with a crisis counselor about trauma or sexual assault.

  • You can reach an on-duty Crisis Counselor at the Sexual Assault Response & Prevention Center (SARP) by calling 617-353-SARP (7277).

    Counseling appointments can be scheduled when the office is open. Please see the updated SARP business hours. If you call after 5:00pm or on a weekend or holiday, you will hear a message saying you have reached SARP. After a brief pause, you will be prompted to press 1 to leave a non-urgent message or press 2 to speak with a Crisis Counselor.

  • 6d. I am a varsity/club sport athlete and have an athletic training/sports medicine question.

    Patient Connect also gives you the options to send a message to one of our athletic trainers for assistance with any healthcare-related questions and for advice.

    Call Athletic Training Services at 617-358-0822 to schedule an appointment during normal Athletic Training business hours. *Please have your BUID number ready. ATS will book appointments up to three days in advance.

    In-Person

    Just show up! ATS has walk-in appointments for URGENT problems (i.e., lacerations or chest pains) at all three of our facilities. Be sure to check our updated Athletic Training business hours and locations before visiting. You can also check our Twitter, @BUATServices.

    If it's a routine eye exam and you have SHIP, please call 800-793-8616 to schedule an appointment and no referral is required.

    If you are having an eye problem and would like to schedule an appointment with SHS, please do so either online or by phone.
