Nina Mazar Named To Thinkers50 Radar Class Of 2023
January 23, 2023
Nina Mazar, Questrom marketing professor and behavioral scientist, has been named a Thinkers50 Radar Class of 2023 member. Each year, Thinkers50 identifies 30 up-and-coming thinkers whose ideas they predict will make an important impact on management thinking in the future.
Mazar’s research focuses on topics from consumer behavior to economics to social and environmental impact. She is also co-founder and chief scientific advisor of BEworks, one of the first commercial consulting firms dedicated to applying behavioral economics to real-world problems. Her board memberships include Irrational Labs, which develops products to make people happier, healthier, and wealthier, and the Martin Prosperity Institute with its director Roger Martin, named Thinkers50’s #1 management thinker.
The World Bank’s Behavioral Insights Initiative was established by Mazar previously to make development interventions more effective by leveraging behavioral science. Additionally, she co-directed Questrom’s Susilo Institute for Ethics in the Global Economy, along with Rotman’s Behavioral Economics in Action research center (BEAR) – Canada’s first academic center dedicated to behavioral economics in policy and organizations.
By studying behavioral economics, Mazar investigates how environmental cues affect how people think about products, prices, work, donations, and morality and how these affect business, welfare, development, and policy. Among the topics she has studied are irrational attractions to free products, the paradoxes of green behavior, organ and blood donation, tax compliance, debt management, health equity, and misinformation.
