Emma Wiles Awarded the Isabel Anderson Career Development Professorship

October 15, 2025

Emma Wiles, Boston University Questrom School of Business, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, has been appointed to the Isabel Anderson Career Development Professorship, endowed by the estates of Isabel and Larz Anderson. Wiles researches the effects of artificial intelligence on labor markets and online employment platforms, delving into how AI is changing the way we apply, hire, and compensate people for their work in a changing market.

“She is a talented researcher,” says Dean Susan Fournier, “poised and trained to make critical contributions to the school’s convergent research theme—The Tech Evolution of Business, Markets, and the Economy.”

In her research, Wiles found that employers who used AI to draft job postings spent 44% less time writing, were more likely to post the job, but produced descriptions that were less informative to job seekers, ultimately decreasing the hiring efficiency.
