Questrom Korean Student Association Launches New Case Competition

May 12, 2026

Earlier this year Questrom’s Korean Student Association (QK) hosted a case competition in collaboration with six Korean universities. A feat of organizational leadership and transnational experiential learning, President Rarkbin Choi notes that this is only the beginning for the Questrom Korean Student Association, or QK.

Teams were presented, online, for time-difference accommodation, with the challenge of expanding Korean chicken chain Kyochon further into the US market. Judges largely hailed from Korea but also featured Questrom’s very own Jay Kim, Associate Professor of Operations and Technology Management.

After two weeks of researching, producing conclusions, and presenting, the BU team took the win, focusing on market positioning and operational efficiency for the chicken brand. The competition benefited both BU and students from Korea by providing a cross-cultural learning experience, evident even in their problem-solving approaches. Given the success of the event, QK is already planning for next year, and laying the foundations that will allow them to scale to more universities and international students.

The purpose of the Questrom Korean Student Association is to foster community and skill-building for any busines-minded Boston University undegraduate student, through various competitions, consulting projects, insightful lectures, and professional development opportunities. This mission of providing students with opportunities to apply creative ideas to real-world scenarios aligns with their goal of experiential learning.

Beyond the Boston campus, QK has hosted summer networking events in Korea, corporate tours, and competition judges from around the world. The normal meetings involve a mix of lectures and team-based activities, focusing on the practical application of business concepts. Only half of the members are Questrom students, with President Choi encouraging students from all backgrounds to join. Students can learn more from their Instagram @questrom_korean and find it at the student’s activities fair SPLASH in the fall.
