Pardee Center Director Anthony Janetos to Chair Department of Earth & Environment

Anthony Janetos, the Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, has been appointed the incoming chair of the Boston University Department of Earth & Environment, effective July 1, 2018. Janetos has been a Professor in the department since he joined Boston University in May 2013.

“I’m looking forward to taking on these additional responsibilities,” Janetos said. “I’m excited to find more opportunities for synergies between the department, the Pardee Center, and the rest of the interdisciplinary centers at BU.”

Prof. Janetos has devoted his career to high-impact global change science and policy, earning international recognition for his scholarship and holding executive leadership positions at institutions including the U.S. Environmental Protection AgencyNASAWorld Resources Institute, and the Heinz Center for Science, Economics, and the EnvironmentHe recently chaired Boston University’s Climate Action Plan Task Force, a year-long effort that culminated in a set of recommendations, including reducing BU’s direct emissions to zero by 2040 and preparing its campuses for the impacts of climate change. The plan was formally adopted by the Board of Trustees in December 2017.
