BU Law Launches Certificate in International Business Law
BU Law continues to innovate in online learning opportunities for practitioners.
Boston University School of Law is proud to announce the offering of its Certificate in International Business Law, beginning in the Fall 2016 Semester. Available to working professionals around the world, the certificate will enable those engaged in transnational business to access the innovative blended-learning curriculum and courses of the Executive LLM in International Business Law, without having to commit to a degree program.
The Director of the Executive LLM in International Business Law, Ian C. Pilarczyk, observed that “we receive inquiries from seasoned global practitioners who are attracted to the diversity of our course offerings and recognize the professional and personal value of being part of the Executive LLM, but who cannot complete the degree program. The beauty of the Certificate in International Business Law is that it affords practitioners the opportunity to take some of our innovative courses in an even more flexible manner, be part of the Executive LLM community, and earn a BU Law credential. It’s a great synergy.”
Students enrolling in the Certificate in Business Law must complete a minimum of 12 credits. Enrollees are granted considerable flexibility to pursue a course of study that matches their interest, with only one required course, International Business Transactions and Agreements. Other courses are a mix of online-only and blended, which marry online learning with two-week residential sessions in Boston or Budapest. Consistent with the flexible nature of the Executive LLM Program, courses can be taken in any order, at any time, in any format, making it ideal for working professionals.
“Preparing lawyers for cross-border practice and giving them the skills and knowledge to serve global enterprises is one of BU Law’s distinct strengths,” says John Riccardi, Assistant Dean for Graduate and International Programs. “The certificate will make our superior instruction, and a BU Law credential, accessible to a new group of professionals. It’s a natural fit for us.”
The launch of the Certificate in International Business Law is the latest in BU Law’s series of forward-looking, market-driven online offerings. In 2011, the School of Law launched the first-of-its-kind Executive LLM Program in International Business Law, followed in 2012 by the offering of an online LLM degree in Taxation. In 2015, BU Law became America’s first law school to offer a MOOC in Compliance, on the edX online platform.
In addition, students who complete the Certificate of International Business Law are eligible to apply for the Executive LLM in International Business Law. Graduates can gain advanced standing, allowing them to apply their 12 or more Certificate credits towards the 20-credit graduation minimum of the Executive LLM.
