Executive LLM Program Launches Concentration in Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance
All-online concentration expands opportunities for students to specialize in the rapidly growing field of compliance
The Executive LLM in International Law Program (ELLM) has received University approval to offer a new concentration in Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance (ERMC). The ERMC will be the third all-online concentration offered by the ELLM, joining popular offerings in International Taxation and International Environmental and Energy Law.
The ERMC concentration will further augment the program’s already-strong curricular offerings by expanding the opportunities for our students to specialize in the dynamic and fast-growing field of compliance. “In light of recent enforcement trends, compliance has become an integral part of global business operations, and companies are moving to adapt by instituting internal risk management systems,” says Babak Boghraty (’89) a lecturer in the ELLM. “The new content positions our students to participate in and take advantage of the opportunities produced by this process.”
Offered in conjunction with the Administrative Sciences master’s program at BU’s Metropolitan College (MET), the ERMC leverages industry and academic experts in the field of risk management, business continuity, and compliance from both BU Law and MET. This concentration is offered entirely online, with no residential components, in a mix of 7-week long intensive courses and 13-week long courses.
Completion of the ERMC concentration also allows students to complete the Executive LLM program requirements through two, rather than the usual three, residency sessions if desired.
Students may enroll in these courses individually, as all will count towards the Executive LLM degree. In order to complete the ERMC concentration, students must complete 12 or more credits from the following, subject to additional requirements:
- Administrative Law (3 credits)
- Enterprise Risk Management (3 credits)
- Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance (3 credits)
- Enterprise Risk Analytics (3 credits)
- Fundamentals of Compliance Management for Multinational Enterprises (3 credits)
- Legal Risk Management in International Trade and Finance (3 credits)
- Cyber Law, Cyber Security, and Corporate Governance (3 credits)
“This concentration is the result of marrying the expertise of both MET and ELLM faculty, and involves the addition of two new ELLM courses in compliance, plus an exciting new offering in cyber security,” says Program Director Ian C. Pilarczyk (’95). “It will help position the ELLM, and BU Law in general, as a leader in this field. I couldn’t be more excited about this initiative, and I’m sure the market will reflect the same.”
