Biography
Steven C. Kennedy has over 25 years of experience as a trial attorney representing businesses, commercial liability insurers, and professionals in complex, high exposure litigation. He has obtained significant success in multiple jury trials and pre-suit resolution. Kennedy has represented clients in cases involving general liability, employment discrimination, construction and/or indemnity disputes, professional malpractice, corporate and business fraud/misrepresentation, ADA federal discrimination claims, and consumer protection/unfair & deceptive trade practices. He is currently Senior Counsel with The Hartford and had previously held in-house counsel positions at MetLife, CNA, and Nationwide. Kennedy has also acted as an arbitrator and mediator with New England Dispute Resolution in Boston.
For the past 15 years, Kennedy has been an Adjunct Professor at Clark University where he serves as the Director of the Mock Trial Program. He teaches courses in the Political Science Department (Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy) and the School of Management (Business, Ethics & Law). The Clark Mock Trial team is nationally ranked and has regularly advanced to national tournaments and won numerous individual awards under Kennedy’s direction. During the summer, Kennedy teaches mock trial curriculum to high school students in an academic enrichment camp setting. Kennedy is also is a member of the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy where he instructs lawyers in trial practice techniques.

Trial Advocacy: LAW JD 894
This course introduces the student to the structure of the trial process and the skills used by trial lawyers. The topics covered range from opening statements to closing arguments, including conducting direct and cross-examination of witnesses, making and meeting objections, introducing documents and discovery into evidence, and using hypothetical questions with expert witnesses. Students must perform simulated exercises and will try one or more civil or criminal cases before a jury. Visit the web for more information on the instructors. PREREQUISITE: EVIDENCE. Students taking TRIAL ADVOCACY in the second semester of their third year may take EVIDENCE as a COREQUISITE. Students who have taken a trial advocacy course as part of a clinic may not subsequently enroll in Trial Advocacy. ENROLLMENT LIMIT: 12 students. GRADING NOTICE: This course does not offer the CR/NC/H option. NOTE: This course counts toward the 6 credit Experiential Learning requirement. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: A student who fails to attend the first class or to obtain permission to be absent from either the instructor or the Registrar, will be administratively dropped from the class. Students who are on the wait list are required to attend the first meeting to be considered for enrollment.
