AI in the Professions

This course will focus on the healthcare professions and the legal profession primarily, and explore how the rise of artificial intelligence is challenging traditional modes of licensing, regulation, and liability. The course will include state AI laws, state licensure systems, professional rules of conduct, Federal policy including FDA law for software as a medical device (SAMD), and some discussion of comparative approaches such as the European Union. The course will include student use of AI platforms, for benchmarking, research and to develop their own skills. UPPER-CLASS WRITING REQUIREMENT: Students may use this class to satisfy the requirement with a 6,000-word research paper. ** A student who fails to attend the initial meeting of a seminar, or to obtain permission to be absent from either the instructor or the Registrar, may be administratively dropped from the seminar. Students who are on a wait list for a seminar are required to attend the first seminar meeting to be considered for enrollment.
