Yoichi Nemoto

Non-resident Senior Fellow, Global Economic Governance Initiative

Yoichi Nemoto is a Non-resident Senior Fellow with the Global Economic Governance Initiative at the Boston University Global Development Policy and is a Professor in the Asian Public Policy Program at the School of International and Public Policy, Hitotsubashi University.

He previously served as Director of the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) between 2012-2016, where he contributed to the work of establishing the ASEAN+3 region’s macroeconomic surveillance office, building up AMRO’s surveillance capacity and transforming it into an international organization. Nemoto was Counsellor to AMRO between 2011-2012. Prior to AMRO, Nemoto held other senior positions within Japan’s Ministry of Finance, including Deputy Vice-Minister of Finance, Director of Regional Finance Co-operation and Director of Foreign Exchange Markets. Between 2002-2004, he was a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University’s Centre of International Studies. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Tokyo and holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Harvard University.
