Geoeconomic Fragmentation and the World Economy
- Starts12:30 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025
- Ends2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025
A trend toward geoeconomic fragmentation (GEF) has emerged as a significant challenge with far-reaching economic implications for countries across the world.
Through which channels is GEF expected to impact the world economy? What are potential global and regional output losses of GEF? And how does the measurement of geopolitical distance between country pairs affect international transactions, especially foreign direct investment?
On Tuesday, April 1 from 12:30-2:00PM, join us for a talk with Shekhar Aiyar, Assistant Director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on the newly emerging topic of GEF, with evidence from IMF work. The talk will also discuss the idea of “connector” countries (vertical and horizontal) that might stand to benefit from a splintering of the global economy into rival blocs.
The talk is part of the Global Security Speaker Series and is co-sponsored by the Boston University Pardee School of Global Studies.
