Stefanie Pechar is a Visiting PhD Fellow at the Boston University Global Development Policy Center and a PhD candidate at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Her research interests are broadly in development economics, political economy and global health, focusing on how policy interventions, institutional reforms and political representation shape women’s health and economic outcomes. Current projects examine the effects of gender quotas on fertility and gender equality in Sub-Saharan Africa, underscoring the importance of political inclusion for substantive representation and broader development outcomes. Stefanie employs experimental and quasi-experimental methods to identify causal pathways linking health, politics and development. She holds an MSc in Development Economics from the University of Göttingen and a BSc in Economics from the University of Mannheim.
