CLIMATE & DEVELOPMENT FINANCE
Finance is a key enabler of structural transformation, but to achieve this, development finance institutions need to have the commensurate scale and instruments, as well as strong voice and representation for developing economies and their citizens.
The Global Economic Governance Initiative’s workstream on Climate and Development Finance explores the roles of development and climate finance institutions – including multilateral, regional and national development institutions and export credit agencies – in facilitating development, human well-being and environmental sustainability. This workstream conducts rigorous research, engages with policymakers and advances strategic communications towards these goals. A core priority of this workstream is to ensure that international and national financial institutions place development at the heart of their strategies for a low-carbon, climate resilient future.
The GDP Center is also a member of the Task Force on Climate, Development and the International Financial Architecture, a consortium of experts from around the world utilizing rigorous, empirical research to advance a development-centered approach to climate change across the international financial architecture (IFA). The Task Force believes it is imperative that the global community support climate resilience and transitions to a low-carbon economy in a just manner.
