Students Present on the Jaunpur Social Networks Study at UROP
Last week, BU students Sarah Safi, Avantika Tandon, and Prachi Aneja gave a presentation at UROP on the Jaunpur Social Networks Study (JSNS). With the help of faculty supervisor Mahesh Karra, the students created posters of their findings and provided short presentations on their research methods, data collection, and analysis.
The project, titled “Networks and Global Health: Experimental Evidence of Women’s Social Networks, Reproductive Health, and Well-Being in Developing Countries”, has seen the research team involved in several research dissemination activities. This includes a July 2, 2019 workshop at the Delhi School of Economics, a seminar to faculty and graduate students at Banaras Hindu University, and field training with a team of 15 enumerators in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Karra’s academic and research interests are broadly in development economics, health economics, quantitative methods, and applied demography. His research utilizes experimental and non-experimental methods to investigate the relationships between population, health, and economic development in low- and middle-income countries.
