“Aurora Borealis: a festival of light and movement” – 12.5 – 12.6

The Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre, in collaboration with the Department of Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance, presents the 15th annual Aurora Borealis: a festival of light and movementThere will be an open dress rehearsal on Sunday, December 4, 7:30 p.m. and two performances on Monday, December 5, at 7 and 9 p.m.

Aurora Borealis is a vibrant exploration of the relationship between light and form with a focus on collaboration and experimentation, featuring dance and movement pieces by faculty and students. The production will be held at the Boston University Dance Theater. Yo-el Cassell and Micki Taylor-Pinney are the artistic co-directors with lighting designed by Bridget Doyle, MFA student in the School of Theatre Lighting Design Program.

This year’s concert will include:
• A collaboration choreographer Yo-el Cassell, and students from the College of Fine Arts School of Theatre. The piece
evolved from Light and Movement, a course taught by Cassell and Mark Stanley.
• Students and community members from Dance Faculty, Liz Roncka’s Movement Improvisation class.
• A group work by Aerial Dance Silks instructor, Marin Orlosky-Randow, is in collaboration with her students.
• A silks solo by Anna Schechinger, and a lyra hoop duet by Anna Schechinger and Caitlin Miller.
• Two solos from the Aerial Apparatus Choreography class taught by Lynda Rieman.
• A lively medley of pieces was created by Dance Faculty instructor, Jossie Coleman, for her Hip Hop and Cardio Jazz
Funk classes.
• Three solos by CFA dance minors from directed studies in choreography with Micki Taylor-Pinney.
