George Sherman Union recognized for important part in gay rights history
Our home, the George Sherman Union (GSU), has been named an important spot in the gay rights movement. The first organized gay student group in Greater Boston, the Boston University Student Homophile League, met at BU during the 1969-1970 school year.
BU Today has a story on the recognition from the History Project’s “Stonewall 50” program. The History Project’s website has information from Steve Russo ’73, who was the group’s president and includes one of their first flyers. Thank you for the recognition and a further look into our student life history.
If you have more information about this group, or have an important part of GSU and student life history to share, please email us at dos@bu.edu.
