Coffee & Conversation: US Out of Afghanistan – Now?

Screen shot 2010-11-28 at 7.44.37 PM

Was it a mistake? Who cares?

In latest elections I heard very little discussion about Afghanistan – perhaps I read, listened to, and watched the wrong news items. Maybe it was because our soldiers will be home to enjoy the last half of the summer?  I just don’t know if I buy it, but I guess we have – 300 billion bills and 1,000 on the U.S. side gave their lives since October 2001. What unfinished work of these resources and lives should we dedicate ourselves? What great task or cause remains so that this excursion is not wasteful?

This Friday, during Coffee and Conversation, let’s talk about Afghanistan and the new way forward?

Was this the conflict of last resort? Did the people who did not fight and had war on their lands have a chance? Who declared America the legitimate folk to take out global terror by any means necessary? An improvement in Afghanistan? What of our obligation to the people in Afghanistan (we told them that if they got into the mix, we’d have their backs against the bad guys)?

Is there a vision for a shared future in this country? Really?

Is there any grace here? Any peace?

I’ll meet you in the Howard Thurman Center, 3-5 p.m. I’ll bring the cookies and coffee, you bring the solution.

Peace.
