Faculty Spotlight: “The Paul Revere of Modern-Day Dentistry” – Dr. Myron Allukian Jr. Reflects on 50-Plus Year Career After Receiving Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Myron Allukian Jr., GSDM clinical assistant professor of health policy & health services research, is widely known in the public health field as a visionary and “The Social Conscience of Dentistry” — a nickname he earned over the course of his 58-year career thanks to his passionate efforts on behalf of the public, the underserved, and vulnerable populations. He reflects on his extensive 50-plus year career after being the first dentist to receive the Massachusetts Public Health Association (MPHA)’s highest honor, the Paul Revere Award for Lifetime Achievement.

GSDM Dean’s Advisory Board Member Joins Alumni Council

GSDM Dean’s Advisory Board member Dr. Mina Paul SPH 96 is expanding her involvement with Boston University with her latest role as a member of the Boston University Alumni Council (BUAC). Paul will attend her first official meeting of the BUAC in October 2023.

Paul has had a wide range of experiences with BU – ranging from her own studies at SPH and Questrom School of Business to her daughter’s experience as a student at Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies – Paul said she has been impressed with how much value she has been able to contribute to the university as an alumna. She said she is eager to bring her perspectives to the BUAC to support BU and GSDM’s continued growth.

“Let’s Begin This Incredible Journey Together:” Annual GSDM Professional Ceremony Welcomes DMD 27 and DMD AS 25 Classes

Students in the Doctor of Dental Medicine Class of 2027 and the Doctor of Dental Medicine Advanced Standing Class of 2025 were formally welcomed to the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine during the Professional Ceremony on July 28 on Talbot Green. The Professional Ceremony was the culminating event in a week of informative and inspiring matriculation activities.

GSDM Puts Community First During BU Global Days of Service

The Boston University Global Days of Service is a widely anticipated annual university-wide month of community service opportunities that encourages students, residents, faculty, staff, and alumni to give back to their local, national, and international communities.

From preparing home-delivered meals to donating blood, the GSDM community participated in numerous events during the 2023 Global Days of Service.

We spoke with recently graduated DMD AS 23 students, DMD 24 students, faculty, and staff about the advice they want to give to the members of the DMD Class of 2025 and the DMD AS Class of 2024 as they enter this new era of their GSDM experience.

In recognition of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, we reached out via GSDM LGBTQ+ organizations and Development & Alumni Relations, hoping to speak with members of GSDM community who identify themselves as LGBTQ+ to discuss the “past, present, and future” of what it means to be LGBTQ+ at GSDM.
