Data Engineer Associate
QLS Advisors LLC (“QLS”) is an investment manager dedicated to quantitative and research-driven investing in multi-stage healthcare and life science companies. The company is developing a portfolio of private and public companies that span multiple therapeutic areas and stages of development. Our mission at QLS is to apply tools from financial analysis and data science to foster biomedical innovation and get transformative therapies to patients faster.
We’re looking for a thoughtful, hands-on Data Engineer Associate to join our Data Architecture team, which develops and operates the data platform used by developers throughout QLS. The team implements all data ingestion, storage, and analytics tooling and provides other ad hoc database needs.
Job Description
At QLS you will:
• Partner with quantitative researchers and developers to provide end-to-end data solutions for our analytics.
• Build and optimize tools for data ingestion and storage using best coding practices.
• Automate and maintain data processing pipelines, implement modern ETL infrastructure, and continuously improve the efficiency of our analytics platform.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on big data analytics projects, which are used to generate insights and drive decision-making.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
• BA/BS degree with strong academic performance, preferably in a quantitative field.
• 3+ years experience with Python, database development, Git, shell scripting, and AWS (S3, EC2, Lambda, Glue, SQS, CDK).
• Experience with Spark, Docker, and large-scale data processing (healthcare and/or financial data preferred).
• Knowledge of Scrum and desire to work in an incredibly fast-moving, agile environment.
• Team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Quick learner who adapts well in a dynamic environment and gets things done; experience in high-growth or startup environments a plus.
