BA/MA Programs
High-achieving Computer Science undergraduates with a 3.5 major GPA may apply to the BA/MS program, allowing them to earn both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree on an accelerated timeline. Students may apply in their junior or senior year, during the fall or spring semesters. Please see the specific eligibility requirements for each program below.
Note: This program is only open to undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science or the joint major of Computer Science and Mathematics. The only Masters Degree you can earn through this accelerated program is a Master of Science in Computer Science. No other graduate degree program can be combined under this accelerated track.
Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Computer Science
This program allows you to earn your BA and MS degree in computer science on a condensed timeline. For the MS portion of this degree you need to earn 32 credits (8 courses). This program is designed for highly qualified students in our undergraduate programs.
Requirements:
Application:
-
- Students are eligible to apply if they are CS majors, have a major GPA of at least 3.5 and cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Note: transfer students need 4 semesters at BU before they can apply to the BA/MS program. International students should consult with their ISSO advisors about their SEVIS records and the process for extending any required paperwork.
- You should apply to this program once you have achieved junior standing (64–95 credits), but no later than the spring semester of your senior year. In your application, the start date should be set for the following fall semester. For example, if you apply in Fall 2025 of your senior year, you will be notified of your acceptance in the spring and can complete your remaining BA requirements. You can then formally begin your MS requirements in Fall 2026.
- Students can take up to two CS500+ courses in their senior year and transfer them to their MS program. These courses will not count toward the BA CS major requirements, but they will count toward the CAS 128 undergraduate credit requirement and any applicable HUB units. Note: Undergraduate financial aid does not cover these two courses. These will be charged as graduate courses.
- Application deadlines are November 30th for spring admission and May 1st for the fall. Review of applications will begin after the deadline.
