The University creates significant employment opportunities in our community. We are the third-largest private employer in Boston, with over 40% of our 9,978 faculty and staff residing in the city and earning more than $250 million in salaries and benefits. Our employees work on both BU campuses, in area hospitals, and at social programs geared toward Bostonians.

We also generate business with local companies, spending around $175 million annually on goods and services from hundreds of Boston vendors.
