Master of City Planning ’15
My Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture sparked my interest in urban place-making and social justice issues. Being a Boston native, I knew it was time for me to return home when I got the opportunity to pursue my Masters of City Planning at BU. I appreciated the City Planning and Urban Affairs Program’s flexible scheduling, which allowed me to keep a full time job in real estate development while pursuing my degree. In the Program I was encouraged to explore all aspects of urban planning, from public health to budgeting and even urban design challenges. Upon graduating, I soon found my current position as a project designer with the planning department at Nitsch Engineering, and I entered the workforce prepared to make a difference as a more dynamic leader with experience in place-based design and policy decision-making.
Brian is a project designer for the planning department at Nitsch Engineering. Nitsch is an interdisciplinary firm of engineers, planners, and land surveyors working on projects primarily in Massachusetts and throughout New England. As a planner, Brian focuses on stormwater master planning and helping municipalities implement best management practices. Brian has teamed with other consultants to craft elements of comprehensive master plan updates for the cities of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kingston, Massachusetts. Brian’s time at Boston University Metropolitan College prepared him for a career in planning by teaching him the theoretical elements of participatory planning and urban design as well as allowing him to develop relationships with both municipalities and residents to build better communities.
