Teaching Tea: Practical Pedagogy, Peer Support
Teaching Tea is a monthly gathering designed for Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences instructors to come together, share ideas, and strengthen their teaching practice. Led by Kevin Gold, Associate Professor of the Practice of Computing & Data Sciences and Preceptor for Instruction, the series offers a relaxed but purposeful space for conversation, collaboration, and problem-solving around the craft of teaching.
Upcoming Fall 2025 Talks:
- Tuesday, September 16 | 12:30 – 1:30 PM
-
Tuesday, October 14 | 12:30 – 1:30 PM
-
Tuesday, November 11 | 12:30 – 1:30 PM
- Tuesday, December 9 | 12:30 – 1:30 PM
Each month, faculty will explore topics that matter most to their classrooms and students. Past and upcoming discussions include scaling and revising classes, making the most of course evaluations, designing effective syllabi and assignments, using auto-graders, and best practices for giving and receiving feedback. Sessions often include short presentations, group reflections, and ample time for open discussion, ensuring that every participant leaves with practical takeaways they can apply immediately.
Beyond the topics, Teaching Tea is about building a supportive teaching community. It’s a chance to learn from colleagues’ successes, discuss challenges openly, and experiment with new ideas in a collegial, low-stakes environment. Whether you’re refining a course you’ve taught for years or creating something entirely new, Teaching Tea provides the resources, encouragement, and shared wisdom to help you thrive as an educator at CDS.
