Data Science Majors & Minors Get Their Game On!
CDS hosted its first Game Night on Wednesday, January 24. The event attracted over 80 of CDS' best and brightest gamers! Taking full advantage of the CDS 17th floor's multi-projection screens, high ceilings, and city skyline views, data science students immersed themselves in a variety of action-packed games — Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Mario Kart. Jenga, Jumbo Connect Four, corn hole, puzzles, and more!
"The first CDS game night was a great way to meet fellow data science students and unwind after a hectic first full week back," said Tye Robison (CDS'26) who played a dual role in game night festivities — attendee and CDS student ambassador. "It was a great success and I had lots of fun."
Colleen Kenney, CDS assistant director of Undergraduate Advising, is an avid gamer and the mastermind behind CDS Game Night.
"The first time I stepped foot in our event space, I saw how spacious the floor was and the massive size of the projectors, I wanted to set up shop and bring some games in to play them myself," she said. It took a while, but CDS finally got to a size that we could make a larger scale version of my idea possible — to make sure undergraduate CDS students had a chance to get to know each other, take a break from the grind, and get some healthy competition among friends in."
As students left the event, they were encouraged to share their experiences via a survey. The feedback was clear: students want a replay this semester.
"As someone who plays video games, it really made me happy to see so many of y’all be excited about the event. As one of your advisors, I was thrilled to see y’all taking care of yourselves outside of academia and unwinding," Kenney said. "I can’t wait to keep making this event better and better! Should I bring my SNES or Sega Genesis next time…?"
