The political landscape in the neighborhoods of Hyde Park and Dorchester's Savin Hill enclave is experiencing significant changes, according to community members. Demographic shifts have resulted in a decline in white populations in both areas, with an increase in Asian and Black communities. Stephen McBride, who ran for the District 3 city council seat in the most recent election, highlighted the importance of engaging non-English speaking communities to ensure all voices are heard. He hopes to bring new perspectives to the political conversation in the neighborhoods.
Hyde Park and Savin Hill have always had strong civic and political engagement, according to State Rep. Rob Consalvo. He noted that multiple voices are now being heard, and the neighborhood has become more diverse. Consalvo adjusts his policies to reflect the changing needs of the community. Similarly, community activist Jose Masso emphasized the importance of collaboration between public, private, cultural, and nonprofit sectors for the neighborhoods to thrive. Masso stressed that all parts of the community must be connected and see themselves as a single entity.
