Explore Career Paths at BU

You may know where you want to go. Or you may not. In any case, we help students navigate career development using our four-step Career Development Cycle.

The first step focuses on understanding yourself: interests, skills, values, and personality. The second is about exploring your options. The third and fourth focus on skill building, personal branding, and pursuing careers that most interest you.

Finding your career path involves exploration, starting with your major. Our supportive staff with help you identify the skills you’ll pick up with various degrees, and we’ll provide you with resources to choose the best for you, like What Can I Do With This Major? and Candid Career.

Where Can a BU Degree Take You?

Within six months of graduation, the majority of new grads start a career with employment, graduate school, national service, or the military. For those who enter full-time employment after BU, their average salary is above the national average for their peers.

We know that those who consider career development earlier are more prepared to launch their careers after graduation. For example, those with internships, or other hands-on experience, in college are more likely to find full-time employment and more likely to have a higher salary than those who don’t.

And 10 years after graduation, most BU alumni report being highly satisfied with their career and many are still in the same field they entered after graduation.

How do we know? Because we survey alumni about job outcomes every year.
