Teams from across the university developed AI models to predict features like microscopic vascular invasion in lung cancer, quantify amyloid burden in Alzheimer’s PET scans, and detect acute tubular injury from kidney proteomics data. The two-day event drew 30 teams competing for $10,000 in prizes on BU’s high-performance computing resources. The hackathon underscored the power of convergent research to turn student innovation into potential contributions for peer-reviewed publications and improved patient care. April 11. During the two-day event. 30 multidisciplinary student teams developed AI models to tackle three pressing biomedical challenges—early stage lung cancer phenotyping, Amyloid PET quantification for Alzheimer's disease, and detection of acute tubular injury from kidney proteomics data. The hackathon underscored the power of convergent research to turn student innovation into potential contributions for peer-reviewed publications and improved patient care.
