Up Close for the Launch of MAVEN

Pictured below is the launch of NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission, or MAVEN, from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Space Launch Complex, Monday Nov. 18, 2013, Cape Canaveral, Florida.  As members of the MAVEN Science Team, BU Astronomy professors John Clarke, Michael Mendillo, Paul Withers and postdoc Majd Matta attended the launch.  MAVEN will study the upper atmosphere of Mars, providing clues as to how the Red Planet lost volatile elements throughout its evolution.
