Record-Breaking Year for Giving to BU
University received $242.8 million from alumni, parents, faculty and staff, foundations, and corporations
In the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2022, Boston University received a record $242.8 million. Gifts came from alumni, parents, faculty and staff, foundations, and corporations, and funded activities across the entire University, including research, financial aid, and student life.
“BU’s story is one of momentum,” says Karen Ann Engelbourg, senior vice president for development and alumni relations. “Our alumni and friends see the continued rise of the University’s reputation, its increasing selectivity, and its influence in Boston and in the world, and they want to be a part of it.”
Among the highlights: 5 new endowed professorships and 47 new endowed scholarships. Endowments such as these are essential to the long-term success of the University, as they support its core work in perpetuity. Critical, too, is support for the Annual Fund, which this year amounted to $27 million and is being used to meet emerging and unexpected needs.
“Especially in times of uncertainty, philanthropy ensures BU is able to continue its most important work—generating new knowledge, educating future leaders, and serving the wider community,” Engelbourg says. “We are deeply grateful to our alumni and friends for their generous support.”
