New to BU? Check Out Our Tips for Getting around Campus, Boston, and Beyond
If you’re new to BU (and we mean faculty and staff, not just freshmen and transfer students) and not sure how to navigate campus and the great big city beyond, we have what you need. We asked experienced urban explorer and public transportation enthusiast Evan Teplensky (CAS’23, Pardee’23) to share a few basic transportation tips that will soon make you feel like a seasoned pro.
Among his suggestions: start by using the Terrier Transit app, custom-made for the BU community. The app helps you plan trips by providing real-time data from the BU Shuttle (the BUS), the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), which administers the T, Boston’s subway system, and Bluebikes. It’s a great way to familiarize yourself with the T.
Teplensky also recommends that students sign up for the 50 percent Bluebikes discount the University offers. Bluebikes are not only great for quickly getting from one end of campus to another, but are also an inexpensive and efficient way to explore the city. And if you’re looking for cheap ways to discover fun destinations outside Boston, Teplensky says, there’s no better way than the MBTA’s Commuter Rail and its $10 weekend pass, which provides easy access to such popular destinations as Gloucester, Rockport, Salem, Providence, and Plymouth.
