Drug or alcohol addiction affects nearly 23 million Americans and costs the United States an estimated $428 billion each year. At Boston University, more than 100 researchers have been awarded more than $130 million in addiction-related research and services grants since 2006. BU faculty currently direct more than 50 addiction-related research projects. A five-part series looks at their progress and challenges.
