BU volunteers share stories from around the country
On Saturday, 387 BU student volunteers, 78 coordinators, and 39 chaperones boarded planes, vans, and buses for places like Horse Cave, Ky., Killeen, Tex., Orland, Maine, and Springfield, Mo., where they are spending the week volunteering as part of the Community Service Center’s Alternative Spring Break program. They are restocking food pantries, renovating community gardens, assisting military veterans, and helping to build affordable housing.
If you’re one of this year’s volunteers, BU Today would like to hear from you. Please send tweets and twitpics to hashtag #BUASB or #leggoASB and let us know how your trip is going. Comments will show up in the CoverItLive player above throughout the week.
Next week, BU Today will feature first-person stories from five of this year’s volunteers.
Alternative Spring Break, founded in 1987 and run by the Community Service Center, gives students an opportunity to learn about social issues and develop leadership skills.
