Central Square theater company presents The Cherry Orchard
Spring may be three months away, but the cherry blossoms are in full bloom at the Central Square Theater in Cambridge. Actors from the Nora Theatre Company will present Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s final play, The Cherry Orchard, tonight, January 8, through February 1.
The play, which debuted at the Moscow Art Theatre in 1904, tells the story of a wealthy Russian family that returns to their childhood estate in a futile attempt to save it from being sold at an auction. Translated by George Malko, the story examines the socio-economic forces of early 20th-century Russia, including the emancipation of the serfs, the rise of the middle class, and the sinking of the aristocracy.
The Central Square Theater is located at 450 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge. Performances take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and on Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $32 for adults, $22 for seniors (65+), and $18 for students with valid IDs.
