What is the honor you received?

Margaret McGuire Earl Career Development Professor

Why did you receive the appointment?

The position was established by Sylvia Tailby Earl (Wheelock’54) and honored her mother-in-law, Margaret McGuire Earl, who was also an educator. It recognizes early-career faculty members at BU Wheelock for their contributions to education research. I’m humbled that my work on ethical-relational approaches to participatory design of technologies, partnership programs, curricula, etc., as well as on AI-supported collaboration, was recognized as aligned with the Earl family’s vision.

Why is it meaningful to you?

I am excited that this award will, for the next few years, allow me to continue building relationships across BU Wheelock, BU Computing & Data Sciences, and Boston Public Schools to collaboratively imagine ethical and relational possibilities for AI and learning.

What’s next for you?

Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of BU undergraduates across Wheelock and CDS that are teaching and collaboratively designing AI-based digital tools for, and with, high school students in Boston Public Schools, drawing from artistic sensibilities from the arts and humanities. Also, collaboratively designing for dignity AI that supports collaborative learning in kindergarten through 12th grade.
