Name: Michael Gomez
From: Lake Ronkonkoma, New York
School: College of Arts and Sciences
Intended Major: Biology (Pre-veterinary Medicine)

What convinced you to go to BU?

When my family and I visited the campus for the first time, I was amazed at how beautiful it was, with its architecture and its location right along the Charles River. Boston itself is such a fun, clean city packed with college students, and I wanted to be one of them.

What are you most excited about coming to college?

I think I’m most excited about the independence. At college I’ll be given the opportunity to live and learn on my own, preparing myself for the real world. I just hope that BU doesn’t spoil me too much.

What course are you interested in taking?

That’s a tough question; there are so many to choose from! I’m really interested in the Core Curriculum courses that BU has to offer. Biodiversity and the Evolution of Life is one among many that seem pretty intriguing.

What kinds of activities do you want to become involved in?

I’m starting off my freshman year by participating in FYSOP. Some of the intramural and club sports sound great, and I cannot wait to play Broomball. I’d also like to get involved in organizations like the Pre-Veterinary Society, the Student Union, and the performing groups at BU.

What will you miss most about home?

I’ll miss my family, my friends, my town, and most of all, I’ll miss the familiarity that comes with them. At BU, every day will be a new experience. It’s a new start for all of us: a blank slate. For the next four years, BU will be our home.

Tell us something about yourself.

I love animals. I’m fascinated by everything about them, from their living habits to even their minor quirks. If it’s possible, I’m hoping to study abroad in Australia, a continent with some of the most diverse creatures in the world.
