Welcome!
The Department of Administrative Sciences at Boston University’s Metropolitan College (MET) is proud to offer the Master of Science in Insurance Management—a unique opportunity for those in the insurance industry who already hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) credential. With the CPCU, you can earn the master’s degree by completing just eight courses (32 credits).
Ideal for those in the areas of underwriting, operations, claims, accounts, risk management, and data analysis, as well as others who wish to complement their insurance expertise, BU MET’s Insurance Management master’s develops the business acumen—including principles of accounting, analytics, finance, leadership, operations, supply chain, and technology—and personal skills needed to advance in the field and prepare for emerging opportunities.
We’re very pleased to be able to offer concentrations in Applied Business Analytics; Corporate Finance; Project, Program & Portfolio Management; and Supply Chain Management.
Having weathered the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the insurance industry is poised to capitalize on its successes throughout the next decade. A rapidly changing environment demands that those in the insurance profession continue to develop new and relevant skills that are becoming integral to practice. PwC report Insurance 2025 and Beyond documents growing urgency around digital and data-driven technology, as well as the need to embrace environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors—especially in the face of a widening global protection gap.
According to a global survey by Deloitte, industry growth post-COVID-19 is also likely to widen the talent gap. Forty-three percent of respondents to the survey reported that it is harder to find talent in a number of functional areas, with technology topping the list, including capabilities in data analytics (Deloitte, 2022 Insurance Industry Outlook). The BU MET Insurance Management program and its concentrations help you develop critical skills you can apply immediately on the job.
Taught by accomplished faculty who balance active research with firsthand experience in the insurance industry, BU MET’s graduate program in Insurance Management is designed to build upon your professional experience by providing practical, hands-on education that focuses on business principles such as ecommerce, innovation, technology, and business continuity. You can complete the program on campus or online—our state-of-the-art online learning environment benefits from an exceptional student-to-instructor ratio of 15:1 and puts you in the classroom with fellow professionals from around the nation. This network of business connections extends beyond the program and into the BU MET alumni community, opening a range of possibilities.
In addition, you will find a variety of job-hunting resources in our community, including BU’s Center for Career Development and MET’s Career Development office, which even offers one-on-one career counseling by appointment for online students.
We hope you will consider building upon your CPCU credential with the BU MET Insurance Management master’s degree.
Sincerely,
