Field-Based Compliance Requirements
All Wheelock students in practicum are required by BU to be in compliance with the Protection of Minors (POM) policy. Students who work with minors need to (a) complete the POM online training and (b) meet their site’s criminal background check standard for each term of fieldwork. Per MA regulations, all persons working with minors must complete a CORI background check at the field site. To ensure full compliance with BU Protection of Minors policy as well as site-mandated background checks, it is strongly advised that all students carefully review BU Protection of Minors (POM) AND Field-Site Background Checks, developed by Wheelock’s Professional Preparation office.
The faculty of the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development reserve the right to be selective in admitting students and in permitting them to continue in the professional programs and the final field-based experiences. The faculty want to ensure that students entering the field have the requisite knowledge, skills, cultural competency, and dispositions needed to be successful.
Each specialization sets the number of days/weeks a student must be present at the field site, which may exceed the minimum number of hours listed in the course description.
Graduate Students
