PRINSCIMED 7
GMS PS 736
The PISCE 7 course is the final 10 weeks of the second year of the didactic phase. These 10 weeks will focus on integrated cases which are based on the BUSM Core patient presentations that will revisit prior foundational science, clinical science, and social science content in patient cases. Each week during these Integration Weeks, students will be immersed in patient cases that begin with a patient presentation to a clinic or ER and will evolve over the week to navigating patient signs, symptoms, labs and imaging to reinforce the connection of foundational science to patient data they will see in the clinical phase of the PA program. These cases will also introduce students to patient cases that are representative of the patient population at Boston Medical Center. All cases will be based on real patient cases and will integrate teaching about our unique populations, highlighting knowledge and skills needed to address the diverse patients and populations. Some health equity themes that will be highlighted in these cases include poverty, social determinants of health, health equity, racism in medicine, behavioral medicine, and population health. The patient populations highlighted in diagnostic cases will include patients with substance use disorder, refugees and immigrants, gender and sexually diverse patients (LGBTQ ) and black, indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC).
