Undergraduate Prerequisites: First Year Writing Seminar (e.g., CASEN 120 or WR 100 or WR 120) and CASEC 201 (or EC 221), CASEC 202 (or EC 222), and CASEC 204 (or EC 224). - Introduces several specialized models that are commonly used in applied economic research for causal inference. You will learn how to better identify cause-and-effect relationships using diff-in-diff models, panel data methods (fixed and random effects), and instrumental variables. The second part of the course will focus on limited dependent variable models (probit, logit, multinomial logit, etc.). We will cover the core workhorse models of applied research, focusing on practical implementation and the intuition behind each method. Effective Fall 2023, this course fulfills a single unit in each of the following BU Hub areas: Quantitative Reasoning 2, Research and Information Literacy, Writing-Intensive.
