Forwarding Mail

From BU Google Mail

If you have a BU Google Apps account and decide that you would like to set up forwarding from the BU Google Mail component to an external mail service, even if that other service is commercial Gmail, you should use the BU Google Mail Settings->Forwarding and POP/IMAP interface to set up forwarding of your mail from BU Google Mail to the external account. You can access Mail Settings, from the “gear” icon in the upper right corner of BU Google Mail. For details, follow the steps described in the related Google article. Note that, even after you have set up forwarding of mail, you will still have your BU Google Apps account and are still welcome to use the other associated applications, such as Docs, Sites or Calendar.

From ACS

In terms of forwarding mail from ACS, you have the following three options:

A. If you are forwarding from ACS in order to begin using BU Google Mail, make sure you have first created a BU Google Apps account and logged into it to make sure your access is working. Next, configure your mail forwarding at www.bu.edu/computing/email/forwarding/. You will either see an option to choose BU Google Mail or can manually forward your mail to login@gmail.bu.edu).

B. If you are currently forwarding mail from ACS to another e-mail account (including commercial Gmail) and you do not wish to use BU Google Apps (even for non-mail services such as Docs, Sites or Calendar) then you do not need to change anything.

C. If you do wish to use BU Google Apps for non-mail services (such as Docs, Sites or Calendar) but you want to continue forwarding your e-mail to a different e-mail account, you will need to make sure that you create a BU Google Apps account and log into it to make sure your access is working. Then, configure your mail forwarding at www.bu.edu/computing/email/forwarding/. You will either see an option to choose BU Google Mail or can manually forward your mail to login@gmail.bu.edu). After that, follow the instructions at the top of this page for forwarding from BU Google Mail.
