Weight Loss Essentials is a unique program designed to facilitate safe and healthy weight loss for BU employees with a Body Mass Index of 25 or higher. This program is based on the scientific evidence about nutrition and activity for safe and effective weight loss. Components of the program include individual counseling, group support, and increased daily activity (using a pedometer). Participants are guided through an assessment of their nutrient needs in order to establish realistic goals for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight in keeping with their lifestyle demands and constraints, food preferences and health goals. Skills and strategies for meal planning, dining out, food shopping, and recipe modification are emphasized. Program Fee for BU Employees: $50. (Register)

Individual Counseling

In addition to the Weight Loss Essentials program, individual nutrition counseling sessions are available to faculty and staff for a variety of health goals including:

  • Blood Pressure Control
  • Cholesterol Management
  • Diabetes Management and Prevention
  • Celiac Disease / Gluten-Free Diet
  • Food Allergy and Intolerance
  • Digestive Disorders, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • FODMAP Management for Digestive Disorders
  • Pre-Natal Nutrition / Gestational Diabetes
  • Vegetarian and Vegan Nutrition
  • Sports Nutrition

Sargent Choice Nutrition Center registered dietitians are participating providers for:

  • Aetna
  • Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
  • Tufts Health Plan
  • United Healthcare
