The Quality Assurance Program at Boston University
Participating in the federal Quality Assurance (QA) Program helps BU Financial Assistance evaluate the accuracy and efficiency with which we deliver financial aid to our applicants. BU participates to help ensure we are providing the best possible service to our students.
What does BU’s participation in the QA Program mean for our students?
The QA Program requires BU to verify the data provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for a randomly selected group of applicants. Any student, graduate and undergraduate, who receives federal financial aid may be selected for the QA sample. Federal financial aid includes Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work-Study and Federal Stafford Loan. Students are selected for the sample using statistical sampling techniques prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education. The sample is drawn in the early spring; students who are selected as part of the sample will be notified by BU Financial Assistance near the end of the current academic year.
You were selected as part of the QA sample… What now?
QA sample selected students are subject to application verification. If you were selected as part of the QA sample, your compliance with program requirements is mandatory to receive any type of federal, state or institution aid. This means you will be required to take steps beyond those required for a regular financial aid application. Our office will be in touch with you regarding the additional information you need to provide. You can also see the QA Required Documents section of this web page for more information.
If you see “QA” as one of the required documents on the financial aid application section of the BU Student Link, you will know you have been selected. Any financial assistance you have already been awarded for the coming academic year will not be disbursed to your BU Student Account until we have completed our QA review process.
I submitted all of the required information… What happens next?
Once we have received all of your required documents we will compare them to the information you provided on your financial aid applications. If there are differences between your application information and your QA verification documents, BU may need to make corrections to your FAFSA information. Also, if you have already received a financial aid offer, and changes to your eligibility result from our review, your aid offer may need to be adjusted. You will be mailed a revised Financial Aid Award notification letter with details regarding any increase or decrease to your award.
I still have questions about QA at BU... Who do I ask?
