How to apply

The online application process is administered by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GRS). Please do not submit any application materials to the Department.

If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact Alissa Beideck, Graduate Program Coordinator for the Department of Earth & Environment, or contact GRS.

Application Requirements

First, you will need to fill out application administered by GRS, where you will upload your personal statement. We also require official copies of your GRE scores (all students) and TOEFL or IELTS scores (international students). Please note that TOEFL/IELTS scores must meet the minimum required scores posted here by the Graduate Admissions Office. The institution code for GRS is 3087. You do not need to submit a TOEFL/IELTS if you are an international student and you graduated from a college or university in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom or New Zealand. We require three letters of recommendation, preferably letters commenting on academic ability from former professors or instructors, and all official transcripts from any universities or colleges you have previously attended. Transcripts and any letters of recommendation sent in hard copy should be in sealed and signed envelopes. Also, a writing sample is not required but applicants who wish to submit one may do so. All application materials must be submitted via the online application. Please do not submit any application materials directly to the Department.
