Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Degree Programs
Students majoring in Earth & Environmental Sciences or Environmental Analysis & Policy have the opportunity to earn both a BA and an MS degree through a single coherent plan of study. The BA-to-MS program combines advanced undergraduate and graduate coursework, equipping students with the foundational knowledge and advanced analytical skills necessary for careers in the energy and environmental sectors. Graduates of the program pursue careers with government agencies, consulting firms, and nonprofits, including Critigen, GP Energy Management, HealthDrive, the Institute for Global Sustainability, Power Advisory LLC, TrueLight Energy, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and many others.
About the Program
This program generally allows students to receive both a BA and MS in five years or less. Students are able to apply up to 8 credits from their bachelor’s degree towards their master’s degree. Successful completion of a Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program may lead to enhanced career employment opportunities, professional training, or doctoral studies.
Typically, students apply to the Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program during their junior year of study.
While the student is enrolled as an undergraduate, financial aid cannot be used toward graduate-level courses unless they also count toward undergraduate degree requirements.
Bachelor’s-to-Master’s in Remote Sensing & Geospatial Sciences
Bachelor’s-to-Master’s in Energy & Environmental Analysis
Requirements:
Students must complete all of the requirements for the BA in Earth & Environmental Sciences or the BA in Environmental Analysis & Policy prior to beginning an MS degree.
Students may apply up to 8 units from their undergraduate degree toward the MS.
- MS in Energy & Environmental Analysis: 8 courses or 32 units: six core courses and two elective courses that are chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor.
- MS in Remote Sensing & Geospatial Sciences: 8 courses or 32 units: three core courses and 5 elective courses that are chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor.
Graduate courses must be completed with a grade of B– or better. At least 152 credits must be completed to fulfill BU requirements for the BA-to-MS, in addition to course requirements for the respective BA degree.
