While sending Majordomo commands (rather than normal messages to your list), the email must be composed in plain text rather than rich text or HTML. If you’re receiving an error in response to your commands, try the steps below to force a command message to be sent as plain text. In addition, be sure to remove any signatures.
Microsoft Outlook 2010 & 2007
- Create a new message as normal.
- Switch to the Format Text tab.
- Select the Plain Text option in the text formatting group (contains HTML, Rich Text, and Plain Text).
- Compose and send your message (do not include a subject or any signature lines).
Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
- Create a new message as normal.
- Switch to the Options tab.
- Click on the Format switch to toggle to Plain from HTML.
- Click Yes through the warning message.
- Compose and send your message (do not include a subject or any signature lines).
Mac Mail
- Create a new message as normal.
- Open the Format menu.
- Select Make Plain Text.
- Compose and send your message (do not include a subject or any signature lines).
Thunderbird
- Hold the Shift button.
- Click Write, Reply, or Reply to All (depending on the context of your message).
- Release the Shift button.
- Compose and send your message (do not include a subject or any signature lines).
This will switch the type of message you’re writing from the default (usually HTML) to the alternate option (usually plain text).
Gmail
- Select the COMPOSE icon in your Gmail’s left navigation bar.
- Select the More options menu (three stacked dots icon) in the bottom right corner of the email composition pop-up.
- Select Plain text mode.
- Place your cursor anywhere in the email body to close the More options menu.
