Max Robidoux will speak at 2018 Sociology Commencement
Keeping with tradition, the Department of Sociology has invited an alumna/us to speak at the department convocation. In 2018, the alumna/us guest speaker will be Maxwell Robidoux (CAS ’17).
Maxwell Robidoux graduated magna cum laude from Boston University in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Psychology. He subsequently became a candidate for Juris Doctor, Class of 2020, at Northeastern University School of Law. While pursuing his law degree, he has worked with classmates to perform an in-depth appellate review of a potential wrongful conviction case for the New England Innocence Project. In late-May of 2018, Maxwell will begin a summer judicial internship with Magistrate Judge Donald Cabell of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse.
Maxwell’s time at Boston University sparked his interest in the intersection between empirical research and government. During his tenure as an undergraduate, he became a Registered Human Subjects Researcher through the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences. He completed a directed study in experimental psychology by assisting Prof. Margaret Hagen in her Fault Line Laboratory study entitled, “How Jurors Assign Liability in a Complex Personal Injury Case.” Maxwell also served as a contributing editor and then as the Vice President of the BU Pre-Law Review. He was the student speaker at the 2017 All-University Commencement.
During the summer between graduation and his first semester of law school, Maxwell collaborated with Dr. Andrea Mercurio in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences on quantitative survey research that analyzed the interrelations between religion, sexuality, and well-being. He continues to be involved in development projects with the College of Arts & Sciences.
Maxwell is certified to mediate in the Massachusetts Trial Court system and is a volunteer mediator with Metropolitan Mediation Services in Brookline, MA, where he also worked as a summer intern in 2016. Maxwell has mediated cases in the Small Claims sessions of the Boston Municipal Court in the West Roxbury, Central, Brighton, and Dorchester Divisions. He also recently received supplemental training and attended continuing legal education in order to become qualified to mediate summary process (eviction) cases.
When not working or studying, Maxwell enjoys socializing with friends, going to the gym, and staying informed about politics and current events.
