Unemployment Eligibility

Under Massachusetts law, (M.G.L. chapter 151A, § 6(k) ), service performed in the employ of Boston University by students who are enrolled at the University and regularly attend class, is not service that is considered “employment” for purposes of eligibility for unemployment insurance. Students who attempt to file for unemployment insurance may have their claims rejected because there is still some lack of clarity about whether or not such students are eligible to collect benefits under the CARES Act.
