Direct Deposit is a safe and convenient way to have your earnings automatically deposited into your checking or savings account. This authorizes the university to deposit your paycheck directly into your bank account. If you already have direct deposit from working at BU previously, you do not need to resubmit.
Setting up Direct Deposit
Eligible students may enroll by selecting Direct Deposit Authorization on the Employee Self Service tile on MyBU Portal. You will need your bank’s routing number and your bank account number. Click here for written step-by-step instructions.
Troubleshooting Direct Deposit Authorization
If you have never worked for BU before, you will need to wait until after your first paystub is generated to set up this service via Employee Self-Service on the BUWorks Central Portal. In order to for a student to have access to BUWorks ESS (Employee Self-Service), the student’s record must be established in SAP (University payroll system). This will typically be on the Thursday after the student has been hired into the Student Payroll system. Please note that during peak hiring times, September and January, access may not be available until Friday after the student has been hired into the Student Payroll System. The following “error message” will pop up.
If you have received an email from Payroll indicating that you have been paid and do not have the Employee Self-Service tab in BUWorks Central Portal, you should go to one of the IS&T Help Desks located throughout campus. You will need to provide your BU ID card and ask them to raise your system security level so that the Employee Self-Service tab can be added to your profile, so that you can access the Employee Self-Service option.
Salary Statements
You will be notified by email each time you are paid. You may view your salary statements under the Student Link Work tab, under View Salary Statements. If the Employee Self-Service tab is not available, you should go to one of the IS&T Help Desks located throughout the campus. You should provide your BU ID card and ask them to raise your system security level so that you can access the Employee Self-Service option.
Changing Bank Accounts
To change which bank account your earnings are deposited to, use the Direct Deposit Authorization option on the Student Link Work tab. Remember you will need to know your old account information to make the change.
Watch the following video to see how to edit your information.
Please Note: If a check is deposited into a closed account, it will not be reissued until the funds have been returned to the University by the bank. This process takes approximately three weeks.
Problems with direct deposit are rare. If one should arise, contact Student Payroll immediately.
