BU students are eligible to work on-campus and have access to the job board if they meet the following criteria:
| U.S. Citizens and Eligible Non-Citizens |
International Students |
| Enrolled full- or part-time in a degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate program* |
|
Before accessing the job board listings through the MyBU Student Portal, first-year and incoming students, must:
- Satisfy the above requirements
- Pay their tuition
- Register for classes
If these requirements are met and access is not granted, please contact our office. The submission form will require the student’s BUID—the unique U and eight-digit number, assigned during application and confirmation. Until a student has been granted access, they will receive an error message when attempting to access the service. |
Status as a student employee ends immediately upon graduation or withdrawal from the University.
A student should be active only as student employee. No student should be active in a staff, temp, or casual position simultaneously.
*If your certificate or course path leads to a degree-seeking program, please contact us.
Summer Jobs
Current, degree-seeking students are eligible to work on campus during the summer if they meet the following criteria:
| U.S. Citizens and Eligible Non-Citizens |
International Students |
| Enrolled for the upcoming fall semester and/or enrolled in summer classes* |
- Enrolled for the upcoming fall semester and/or enrolled in summer courses
- International students may only work part time if it is not their first or last summer enrolled at Boston University; consult with ISSO for more information
|
*If a student is not eligible to register for the upcoming fall semester (e.g., fall graduation date), the student needs to be enrolled for summer.
- Student registered in Summer 1 only with no future registration may work only during Summer 1 term.
- Students registered in both Summer 1 and Summer 2 or only in Summer 2 with no future registration may work for the entire summer.
- Students working on an incomplete to finish a graduation requirement are not considered enrolled and cannot be paid as student employees.
After Graduation
If you’ve graduated, you are no longer eligible to work on campus as a student employee. For example, if you graduate in May, you may not continue as student employee in the summer.
However, there is an exception to this rule. If you graduated BU as an undergraduate and are immediately starting a BU graduate program in the fall, you may work as a student employee during the summer before your program begins.
Ineligibility
The following individuals are ineligible to work on campus or have access to the JobX Job Board listings:
- Non-degree-seeking students (e.g., exchange or visiting students)
- Students who have withdrawn or taken a leave of absence
- University staff (even if taking classes in a degree program)
